Wheelchair Step Lifts
Wheelchair step lifts are used where there is a difference in flooring levels of less than 2 metres. They allow anyone who uses a wheelchair to change floor levels quickly and safely. The lift takes the form of a platform structure that the wheelchair can be positioned on. The platform is on an lift frame mounted on a lift housing to allow controlled vertical movement of the platform structure.
Wheelchair step lifts are useful where building access is by a few steps, and where a wheelchair ramp is not practical. The wheelchair step lift is a more compact solution that can raise the wheelchair and its occupant to the level of the top step, which will be the level of the building floor. This allows the wheelchair to be wheeled off the lift and into the building.
Wheelchair step lifts are suitable for a wide range of situations where it is deemed to be a preferable solution to a wheelchair ramp. This is usually because of space restraints as well as because of new legislation governing the gradient of wheelchair ramps, which can make compliance difficult to achieve.
The power source for wheelchair step lifts is generally from the mains electricity supply. There is also a battery back up supply to allow continued and uninterrupted use should the mains electricity supply fail during operation.
