Government Funding to Help Disabled Youngsters 22. 05. 2009
Groups responsible for disability awareness and active disability campaigners are keen to see that £340m of government backed funding will now enable more disabled youngsters to take advantage of short breaks that will be funded by the scheme.
The finance award has been introduced as part of the new child health strategy, ‘Healthy lives, Brighter Futures,’ and is complimentary to similar funding already presented through other government initiatives. The funds will be distributed to Primary Care Trusts throughout England.
Every Disabled Child Matters is one such organisation to benefit from the scheme and board members are delighted that the Department of Health have confirmed the funding. They will also ensure the Primary Care Trusts spend the money on organising health and childcare facilities as part of an initiative to support the primary health needs of disabled youngsters to allow them to take advantage of quality short breaks.
The influence of the funds are expected to deliver essential opportunities to children that would otherwise have never been able to enjoy breaks away from home due to the nature of their severe disabilities and medical requirements.
£30m of the funds will also be presented to the children’s palliative care services, whilst new commissioning models for providing community equipment for children, will begin to be piloted in 2009-10.
