Curved Stair Lifts
Curved stair lifts are made bespoke to fit and suit each individual situation as no two curved stairways are identical. While straight stair lifts really only vary in the angle if ascent and the length of straight stairway, curved stairways can also vary in how they are curved.
The simplest form of use for a curved stair lift is where the curve is circular and constant, as in a spiral stairway. However, some stairways may incorporate a combination of straight and curved sections, or sections of differing degrees of curvature. This necessitates a bespoke solution for each individual situation, which has its advantage in that it is made specifically to fit a given situation and is therefore perfect for it.
Most curved stair lifts are positioned on the inside of the the staircase, though some can be positioned on the outside of the staircase if the design allows it. The safest systems use a battery system that is recharged from the mains electricity power. In the case of a mains power failure while the stair lift is in operation, it will continue to operate normally, usually up to at least four ascending and descending operations.
Controlling curved stair lifts
The chair lift is normally controlled by means of a small joystick positioned on a foldable arm for comfort. The operation is smooth and steady and can take weight usually up to around 20 stones, or about 130 kilograms. A friction drive system is normally employed that runs on aluminium profiled tracking.
The friction drive solution offers a clean system that is free from grease or oil. Safety sensors are used on every side of the chair to prevent any part of the user’s clothing, or any body part from becoming trapped or crushed while the chair lift is in operation. The chair lift also offers a comfortable and smooth continuous operation for the increased safety of the user.
